Nightly Beauty Routine

What products (if any) do y’all use before bed? Until recently I did nothing! Just put on my pajamas, brush teeth, floss (sometimes…) and then lights out! I’ve always washed my face in the shower, and I’ve had clear skin my whole life, so I never washed my face before bed either, unless I had sweated or something. Makeup taker-offer cloths took off my makeup. My routine was simple, to say the least.

1. Olay– Now, however, I feel so much more adult and responsible and sophisticated. Since I have such fair skin, and I would really rather not have wrinkles in my 20s, I use the same daily Olay lotion every night and morning on my face. Of course, it’s the same one my mom has used for years.

2. Clinique– In looking for a dark under eye circle fixer lotion last year I stumbled across Clinique’s All About Eyes Rich in Sephora. Though it hasn’t helped a lot with the dark circles, I can already tell the skin around and under my eyes is much smoother and more hydrated. It’s really light too, and it makes me think that I’ll never have crows feet or under eye bags.

3. Nivea– And of course, since my lips are ridiculously prone to chapping, I love Nivea. It’s actually replaced Burt’s Bees, which I wore for years.

4. Biore– About once a week before I go to bed, while reading my endless stack of magazines that seems to never get smaller, I put on a Biore Pore Strip on my nose. It sounds disgusting actually ripping it off after 15 minutes, but it’s cool to actually see how much it takes out of your pores!

5. St Ives– Is it just me, or does anyone else love mud masks? They’re a pain to take off, but I love feeling the mask tightening my skin. Does it actually really tighten my skin? I don’t know. But I do it for the mental happiness. It’s my once a week party.

6. Neutrogena– And finally, when I do wash my face, my grapefruit scented face wash does the trick and makes my skin soft and smell delicious!

7. John Frieda– Since I have my skin and lips covered I really want to try the repair serum by John Frieda. Does anyone use it and like it?

Special Scents

I love the idea of a woman having a signature scent- that one perfume that she always reaches for. My mom bought me my first bottle of perfume when I was 14 during a back to school shopping trip at ULTA. I remember meticulously smelling every single perfume (which may or may not have damaged a few brain cells), trying to find something light and floral and fresh enough. Musky and deep do not fit me. I eventually chose J’adore by Dior, and I still love it. I don’t wear perfume often, but I always feel fancier and prettier when I put on just a spray of it.

I just bought my second scent a few weeks ago. I’ve liked Happy by Clinique for a while, but I never got around to buying it until now. I got the roller ball version and it works great! I keep in it my car or in my purse for a quick roll on the wrist on the way to class or to run errands. I never have to worry about spraying too much on!

The next scent I’m wanting is Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue. It’s so light and fresh I feel like it would be perfect for everyday! Does anyone have Light Blue in their collection now? Love/hate it?

What perfumes do y’all have? I’ve always been weary about celebrities perfumes, but I’ve heard Jennifer Aniston’s is nice and not overpowering. And who could say no to these ads?

The Pink Life

I’m feeling the pinks and purples of spring, clearly

I finally painted my nails (all of them! not just one hand!) yesterday. The color is Essie To Buy or Not To Buy. It’s super pale so it’s not super noticeable, but it’s one of my favorite purple colors.

I just got this hanging clutch makeup bag from Target to replace an old one and I’m so glad I did. It’s huge, meaning I don’t have to take three bags with me full of toiletries whenever I go out of town.

My sister just performed in her last high school play, so I picked out these beautiful flowers at Publix!

I got this ring at the Charleston market with my friend Savannah, who got a matching one. The picture doesn’t show it well, but it has a slight pink color to it.

A big thank you to Forever21 for helping me put some bright pink and orange into my wardrobe!

I got this jacket at Forever 21 when I was in Charleston and it’s finally nice enough weather that I can wear it with a tank top and shorts or jeans. The rose color is so pretty!

Color Inspiration

This post kind of reminds me of Daughters by John Mayer…”she puts the color inside of my world…”

Happy Friday, everybody! (thank God)

You are correct, this is not gold. It is silver. But still super cool/pretty/awesome.

Mani Monday

As shown on The Beauty Department…I love this because it’s easy. And pretty, and small. Therefore, these little hearts will be on my nails this evening.

Cosmetic Brands that Test on Animals

After finally getting around to watching Rise of the Planet of the Apes (which is really good, by the way), I got super interested in making sure that none of the products I use on a daily basis do animal testing. It just makes me so sad to think about all of those little mice caged and injected or coated with products that scientists and companies aren’t willing to test on people in the first place.

And ignorance really is bliss. I found so many of my favorite companies on Animal Testing lists. Tomorrow I’m going out to buy new soap, nail polish (I’m so sad I have to kiss all of my essie polishes goodbye), shampoo, and makeup. I’ve also contacted Essie and OPI about their animal testing (OPI says they don’t do animal testing, but the company that does own them, does). With y’all’s help we can stop animal testing from our beloved makeup lines! Even if you continue to use them, any added pressure helps!

Here are the links to contact the above companies:

L’Oreal Essie Pantene Suave Olay Dove Neutrogena Covergirl Crest

Here is a list I’ve compiled of companies and products that DO test on animals. Please tell me if you find one that is actually cruelty-free!
